Lane Memorial Blood Bank Wins Prestigious National Awards

Two of Lane Memorial Blood Banks partnerships are resulting in national awards from Americas Blood Centers (ABC) in Washington DC.  Every year ABC calls for nominations for awards in a number of categories. It is an honor just to be nominated; to win an award is a huge achievement but to win two awards in the same year is almost unheard-of, especially for a small blood center like Lane Memorial Blood Bank (LMBB). 

Northwest Community Credit Union is being honored for holding the most productive blood drive at a small blood center and Cottage Grove High School will be honored for having the best school blood drive program in the country.  These awards will be presented at a banquet in Fort Lauderdale, FL during the ABC annual meeting March 22nd.

Northwest Community Credit Union (NCCU) and LMBB teamed forces in July for a one day event to celebrate NCCUs 60th anniversary.  The group hoped to collect 60 units of blood.  Employees worked hard to promote the event to clients, neighboring businesses and the community.  The event ended up collecting more than 70 pints of blood and had nearly 100 people attempt to donate. For this effort NCCU is being given the ABC 13th Annual Most Productive Blood Drive Award for a small blood center.  This award is presented to an organization that has shown an exceptional commitment to establishing blood donation as a priority within their group in 2009.

Cottage Grove High School (CGHS) will be given the ABC 13th Annual School Blood Drive Award for their work establishing blood donation as a priority at CGHS.  This school has done an exceptional job promoting blood donation and recruiting blood donors.  Each year they hold 3-4 blood drives and each year collect more than 150

units of blood.  For a small high school that is a phenomenal rate of participation!  The principal of CGHS donates and encourages his students and faculty to do the same.  The whole school gets involved in this event and always does a fantastic job.
